LAMDA HELLIX, the leading data center services provider, announced the undertaking, on behalf of the Greek Research and Technology Network (GRNET), the development of the first high density-highly efficient data center in Greece, which will be based exclusively upon renewable energy sources. The project budget is close to 2.5 million Euros and includes the design, deployment, and management of an innovative data center, which will achieve unique, for the area, energy savings of more than 70%.
The selected deployment site is adjacent to Louros River and nearby the artificial barrier of Philippias 10.5MW Hydropower Station in Epirus. The project aims to employ the area’s water resources to satisfy the data center energy requirements; while adding value, creating investment opportunities, and enacting to the advancement of the local area.
The innovative design of GRNET’s new eco data center, is a result of LAMDA HELLIX’s solid know-how and includes fully automated operations. Additionally, advanced physical and digital security systems, perimeter safety, plus 24x7 digital monitoring by an experienced team of engineers, based at LAMDA HELLIX’ Technical Operations Center (TOC) in Athens, has been included. The new eco data center will operate in metallic portable containers, designed by LAMDA HELLIX and in accordance with the natural environment and the local weather conditions.
