Every year we choose to support those members of society that are in need. This year we felt that it was time to give our thanks and support to the elderly members of our community. The pensioners that struggle to maintain a decent life level with limited resources and increased health problems. Showing our support to those people is an act of thankfulness for all those people that dedicated their lives in order for us to enjoy a life of comfort and freedom.

Lifeline Hellas, is an N.G.O. that was founded in 2006. Their goal is to protect and support the elderly no matter of their needs. All those years, they have implemented several actions to improve the wellbeing of the elderly such as blood donations, monthly food supply to those in need or providing help in legal and financial issues they might facing. Their main contribution lies upon the operation of Silver Alert, the national operational center for reporting missing elderly people. The Silver Alert Service is the first organized system operating in Europe for the public share of information related to a missing person. In full cooperation with the police they try to reunite elderly that were found alone and were unable to state their identity or try to locate missing elderly following a missing report by their family.

During our visit to their premises, we had the pleasure to meet Mr. Gerasimos Kourouklis, Chairman of Lifeline Hellas, with whom we discussed the problems they are facing due to the lack of funding and appropriate caring of elderly people. The economic crisis has doubled the incidents of missing people while increased the urgency of others to be supported financially. The N.G.O. is founded only through private donations and their needs are tremendous given that they operate the Red Button, an emergency device linked to their call center which is available 24x7 and provides people of a certain age and criteria the help of a doctor, psychologist, social worker or even the ability to report incidents of domestic violence against them.
